The Journey to 2025
As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on a transformative journey. It’s been a year of courage, growth, and new beginnings.
Four years ago, I joined an online "guild" as part of a World of Warcraft community. Six months later, I took a leap of faith and started dating another member.
It wasn’t without its challenges. I lived in Sydney, Australia, while he was in Texas, United States. The distance wasn’t the only complexity; we had several significant conversations before committing to this relationship:
Dating a widower: He had recently lost his wife to cancer.
CPTSD: I carry my own emotional scars.
A long-distance relationship (LDR): Navigating time zones, video calls, and thousands of miles.
Our future home: Would it be Sydney or Houston?
In August 2023, we applied for the K-1 Fiancé Visa to bring us closer. By April 2024, I packed up my life in Sydney and prepared for the next step. After my interview in June, I moved to the United States in July.
On August 1, 2024, we were married in Houston.
Adjustments and Aspirations
“Creativity takes courage.”
— Henri Matisse
The transition hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the most significant adjustments has been waiting for the next stage of my visa process, which currently prevents me from working.
But this period of stillness has brought clarity. I am a writer, and for decades, I’ve adhered to societal expectations—working in banking, administrative roles, and eventually as a freelance writer in the finance sector. While these experiences shaped me, they didn’t fully align with my passions.
Now, for the first time, I get to choose who I work for and what I write. I’m eager to focus on more creative projects, meaningful B2B content, and collaborations with businesses I genuinely enjoy.
Building Foundations
As I look ahead to 2025, one word stands out: Foundations. This will be the year I lay the groundwork for a new chapter in my life, both personally and professionally.
Here’s to the journey ahead.
